Iran threatens US sites in Middle East if tankers come under fire

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned they would attack US bases and ships in the Middle East if Iranian tankers are targeted again, following recent clashes in the Gulf of Oman.

The threat came after US forces struck two Iranian tankers that Washington said violated its blockade, while Iran claimed its navy retaliated.

Tensions also rose near Qatar after a cargo ship caught fire from an unknown projectile attack off Doha’s coast.

Meanwhile, the US is waiting for Iran’s response to a proposed extension of the Gulf truce and possible peace talks, though Iranian officials questioned Washington’s commitment to diplomacy, The Guardian has reported.

Qatar and Pakistan continue to act as key mediators as both sides try to avoid further escalation in the region.
