A large nighttime explosion and fireball in Beit Shemesh alarmed residents, many of whom feared a renewed attack due to the city’s recent experience with Iranian missile strikes.
The state-owned Tomer defense company later confirmed the blast was a planned rocket-related test, though locals said they had received no warning.
Reports said the explosion involved rocket propellant testing and appeared especially dramatic because of weather conditions, despite taking place far from populated areas.
The incident sparked online rumors of an attack or accident, but Tomer said police, the military, and emergency services had been notified in advance, the Times of Israel has reported.
Following public panic, Tomer and the Defense Ministry reportedly agreed to review procedures and provide advance public warnings before future tests.
