Trump contrasted Paxton with his opponent, Senator John Cornyn, criticizing Cornyn’s record and praising Paxton’s loyalty and conservative positions.

The endorsement came as the Texas GOP Senate race heads toward a Tuesday runoff between Paxton and Cornyn.

Some Senate Republicans, including Senator Susan Collins, criticized Trump’s backing of Paxton and expressed support for Cornyn instead, The Hill has reported.
