About 90 drones fell during a Vivid Sydney light show over Darling Harbour, forcing the cancellation of a second performance.
Organisers said the incident was caused by “unforeseen technical difficulties,” likely linked to changes in radio frequency conditions that disrupted the fleet’s positioning system.
Most of the drones landed in the water while a few fell onto a boardwalk, but no injuries were reported due to safety exclusion zones.
The UK-based operator said the drones shut down as a safety measure after losing accurate control, and a full investigation is now underway, The Guardian has reported.
Several upcoming shows were cancelled or postponed while authorities and organisers review safety systems and determine whether the display can safely continue.
