Two men were killed in a collision on the Queensboro Bridge bike path in New York City during the morning commute when a stand-up motorized scooter and a bicycle struck each other while traveling in opposite directions.
Both victims, aged 39 and 35, were taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the scooter involved was capable of speeds exceeding 50 mph and should not have been operating on the bike path.
The crash occurred on a narrow, heavily used corridor designated for cyclists after recent changes separating bike and pedestrian traffic, ABC 7 New York has reported.
Officials and safety advocates called the incident preventable and urged stricter regulation of high-speed micromobility devices.
