Son of Norwegian crown princess guilty of rape

Marius Borg Høiby, the 29-year-old son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was found guilty of two counts of rape and several other offences, including abuse, violating a restraining order, and filming a woman without her consent.

He was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to pay more than £50,000 in compensation to three victims.

Although he faced 40 charges carrying a potential 16-year sentence, judges acquitted him of two additional rape counts.

Høiby plans to appeal the rape and domestic violence convictions, while his lawyers have argued for leniency due to his mother’s serious illness, The Telegraph has reported.

The high-profile trial, which exposed his struggles with drug and alcohol abuse, has damaged the image of Norway’s royal family and contributed to a decline in public support for the monarchy.
