Russian attacks in Ukraine kill 11, damage historic Kyiv cathedral

Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine killed at least 11 people, injured 53, and left about 140,000 households without electricity.

A direct drone strike set fire to the historic Dormition Cathedral at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO-listed religious site, causing significant damage.

The barrage also destroyed a large costume collection at the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studios and damaged residential areas in Kyiv.

In Kharkiv, five emergency responders were killed in a “double-tap” attack when a second strike hit while they were responding to an earlier blast, Al-Jazeera has reported.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks and called on G7 countries to increase pressure on Russia and strengthen Ukraine’s air-defense capabilities.
