Montreal police officer and civilian killed in shooting

For the first time in over 20 years, a Montreal police officer was killed in the line of duty during a shooting in the Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood on Monday.

The officer, 34-year-old Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, along with civilian Michael Mizrahi, died in the incident.

Another officer was injured but is in stable condition, while a civilian suffered minor injuries.

Police said they responded after reports of a gun visible from a window, and the lone suspect involved in the shooting was also killed, CBC has reported.

Authorities later reported that the suspected shooter had circulated a violent incel manifesto targeting women.
