The Five Eyes intelligence alliance has warned that highly advanced AI models capable of enabling sophisticated cyberattacks could emerge within months, not years.

The joint statement from Australia, the US, the UK, Canada, and New Zealand said AI will improve cyber defense but also dramatically increase the speed and scale of cyber threats.

Officials urged governments and businesses to treat cyber risk as a core leadership issue requiring a coordinated, whole-of-society response.

The warning comes amid growing concern over powerful AI systems, including models developed by firms like Anthropic, which have already faced restrictions due to security risks, The Guardian has reported.

Experts say these tools could both exploit and defend against vulnerabilities, raising fears that equally powerful systems may soon be developed by other global actors.
