At least six people were killed after a fire broke out in a 10-storey apartment building in Antwerp on Wednesday.
Residents said they became trapped as smoke quickly filled the hallways, forcing many to wait for firefighters to rescue them from balconies and terraces.
The building housed about 200 people, and authorities said it was too early to confirm the number of injuries.
Emergency crews from multiple districts responded while nearby residents were advised to keep their doors and windows closed because of the smoke, Reuters has reported.
Bart De Wever expressed his condolences to the victims as Belgium continues to face a series of major fires.
