Nancy Guthrie Ransom Notes Were Fake, FBI Reportedly Finds

The FBI has concluded that all three ransom notes linked to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC News anchor Savannah Guthrie, were fake.

The notes, sent at different times to media outlets including TMZ, included claims of abduction, ransom demands, and alleged knowledge of the case, but investigators do not believe they are credible.

One of the earlier notes reportedly demanded $4 million, while another falsely claimed she had died.

The FBI’s assessment raises uncertainty about whether the case involves an actual kidnapping for ransom, though investigations are ongoing, Forbes has reported.

Savannah Guthrie had previously made an emotional public plea for information, saying her family was in “agony” over her mother’s disappearance.
