Prosecutors in Utah are set to begin presenting evidence against Tyler Robinson during a preliminary hearing in the alleged assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

They say Robinson fatally shot Kirk at an event at Utah Valley University and fled before later surrendering to authorities after a 33-hour manhunt.

The hearing will determine whether there is enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial, though not Robinson’s guilt or innocence.

Prosecutors plan to pursue aggravated murder charges and seek the death penalty, while Kirk’s family is expected to attend parts of the proceedings, the USA Today has reported.

The case has drawn national attention due to its political implications and the spread of graphic footage online following the shooting.
