The Justice Department renewed its demand for New Jersey’s voter registration data after the state revealed that about 6,600 noncitizens were mistakenly added to voter rolls, with roughly 400 casting ballots.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon requested detailed records from Gov. Mikie Sherrill within five days as part of the DOJ’s ongoing effort to review compliance with federal election laws.

The department is already suing New Jersey officials for access to electronic voter registration databases and said the information is needed to verify voter eligibility.

State officials and the technology company involved disputed responsibility, with the vendor saying election officials are responsible for validating registrations, Fox News has reported.

The issue has sparked calls for audits, bipartisan cooperation, and renewed debate over election security and voter-roll management.
