Cape Coral police identify remains found in 2024 as Rose Marie Gayhart who vanished in 1985

After more than 40 years, the remains of Rose Marie Gayhart, a Florida woman who disappeared in 1985, have been identified.

Police confirmed that remains discovered in a Cape Coral canal in 2024 belonged to the 23-year-old, who was last seen outside a local diner.

The identification has brought answers to her family but has also renewed efforts to determine how she died and who was responsible.

Authorities are now treating the case as an active homicide investigation and are pursuing new leads, NBC News has reported.

Police are asking anyone with information about Rose’s disappearance or death to come forward.
