Poland confirmed that an object which crashed in a field near its border with Ukraine was a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

The missile landed without causing injuries or damage, but prompted NATO to scramble fighter jets and activate air defenses as Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack across Ukraine.

Polish officials said there was no evidence that Poland was the intended target, though they described the incident as very serious.

Ukrainian authorities reported at least 10 people were killed and dozens injured during the overnight strikes, while many missiles and drones were intercepted, the Express has reported.

NATO and Ukrainian officials said the incident highlights the broader security risks posed by Russia’s war and the need to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses.
