A new attorney, Gregory Rauch, has been appointed to represent Bryan Kohberger as he seeks to withdraw his guilty plea in the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students.

Kohberger pleaded guilty in 2025 as part of a deal that spared him the death penalty, resulting in four life sentences without parole and an additional 10-year burglary sentence.

In his post-conviction petition, Kohberger claims he was pressured into pleading guilty by his former legal team through threats and false promises about prison conditions.

He also alleges his attorneys failed to disclose potentially important evidence, including hair samples found near victim Ethan Chapin that did not match Kohberger, USA Today has reported.

Legal experts say Kohberger faces significant challenges in overturning his plea, while Idaho officials said they will continue working to ensure justice is carried out.
