Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan won the Democratic Senate primary after defeating Rep. Angie Craig in a race that highlighted divisions between the party’s progressive and moderate wings.

Flanagan has pledged to dramatically overhaul ICE, while also supporting progressive policies such as Medicare for All and an end to military aid to Israel.

Her campaign received backing from prominent progressives including Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Ilhan Omar.

Republicans see Flanagan’s nomination as an opportunity to make Minnesota competitive, particularly with former NFL reporter Michele Tafoya expected to be a leading GOP contender, Fox News has reported.

Flanagan will now face the Republican nominee in November in a race that could become a major battleground for control of the Senate.
