NASA astronaut and 1st female French spacewalker remove failed ISS antenna

NASA astronaut Anil Menon and ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot conducted a spacewalk outside the International Space Station on Tuesday to replace a malfunctioning communications antenna.

The astronauts successfully removed the failed antenna but encountered delays with its electrical connections and mounting hardware, preventing them from installing the replacement.

The old antenna was secured to the station and will remain there until a future spacewalk, possibly as early as August 25.

The spacewalk lasted 6 hours and 23 minutes and marked Menon’s second spacewalk, Space.com has reported.

Adenot also made history by becoming the first French woman to perform a spacewalk and only the fifth French citizen to do so.
