SpaceX plans to build a massive new Starship launch complex in southern Louisiana as part of a $100 billion investment in the state.

The facility, called Starbase Louisiana, will cover about 125,000 acres and is expected to support thousands of Starship launches each year.

Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the first Starship launch from Louisiana targeted for 2029.

The complex is expected to include launch pads, fuel production, power generation, vehicle processing facilities and other infrastructure, creating more than 3,000 jobs, Space News has reported.

SpaceX says the site will support future missions to orbit, the Moon and Mars, but environmental groups have raised concerns about the impact on the region’s sensitive coastal wetlands and wildlife.
