About 15 people remain missing or unaccounted for after flash flooding swept through the Grand Canyon’s Bright Angel Canyon and Phantom Ranch area on Saturday.

Sixty-two people have been airlifted to safety so far, with more evacuations expected, and no injuries have been reported.

The National Park Service said the flooding caused significant damage, including washed-out bridges, and trails in the area have been closed.

Park officials warned that additional thunderstorms and heavy rainfall could bring more flash flooding, debris flows, rockfalls and dangerous trail conditions, the BBC has reported.

Rangers are continuing to search for missing hikers and have asked anyone with information about people in the affected area to contact the National Park Service.
