Russian President Vladimir Putin told President Donald Trump during a phone call that Russia has no aggressive intentions toward Europe, according to the Kremlin.

Putin’s statement came as several European governments have accused Russia of carrying out sabotage and other hostile activities on European soil.

The roughly hour-long conversation focused heavily on the war in Ukraine, with Putin discussing the battlefield situation and what he believes the United States could do to help end the conflict.

Trump expressed a desire to end the war and restore U.S.-Russia economic and diplomatic relations, while both leaders agreed to continue communicating and supporting prisoner exchanges, PBS has reported.

Despite the diplomatic efforts, Russia and Ukraine have continued deadly attacks, and there has been no major breakthrough toward ending the war.
