Missing US hiker, 70, found injured on remote island after week-long search

A 70-year-old Michigan hiker was rescued after being missing for about a week on remote Isle Royale in Lake Superior.

Craig Berg was found injured and suffering from hypothermia by backpackers and Michigan State Police search teams.

Berg had been on a planned solo hiking trip and failed to return as scheduled, prompting his family to report him missing.

A U.S. Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter airlifted him from the island and took him to a hospital for further treatment, The Guardian has reported.

Authorities said Berg was alive and alert when he was found and credited fellow hikers, police, and multiple agencies with helping bring him to safety.
