A Chinese startup, Photon Matrix Lab, is preparing to ship a laser-based mosquito killer that uses LiDAR, AI and lasers to detect and eliminate mosquitoes in midair.
The company attracted more than 4,000 customers from over 50 countries through crowdfunding, raising about $2.7 million for the product.
The first batch is expected to ship later this month, with initial production planned at 3,000 to 5,000 units per monthbefore expanding next year.
The indoor model uses an invisible infrared laser and costs $988, while the outdoor version uses a visible blue laser and costs $1,088, the South China Morning Post has reported.
The company says delays were caused partly by complex sensor adjustments and safety requirements, as it works to turn technology previously used mainly in industrial applications into a consumer product.
