Ford fends off Hyundai to retain No. 3 U.S. sales position in third quarter

Ford reported 509,764 U.S. vehicle sales in the third quarter, down 6.6% from a year earlier, partly because it phased out the Escape and Lincoln Corsair.

Ford said that excluding those discontinued models, its sales volume was essentially flat while the overall U.S. auto market declined about 1%.

Truck sales remained relatively strong, with Ford’s total truck sales rising 0.5%, while demand for hybrid vehicles increased as gasoline prices remained elevated.

The Maverick Hybrid had a record quarter with 27,793 sales, up 59.6%, while F-Series production increased 4.5% during the quarter, CNBC has reported.

Ford also said a temporary supplier problem disrupted F-150 production near the end of September, but the company expects the financial impact to remain within its $10 billion–$11 billion full-year adjusted EBIT guidance.
