NATO fighter jets shot down a drone over Lithuania after it entered the country’s airspace from neighboring Belarus.

Lithuanian officials said the drone was heading west and was destroyed near the village of Pratkunai, outside Kaunas.

Poland also scrambled fighter jets as a precaution following increased Russian drone attacks on Ukraine and the discovery of a suspected Russian military drone in the Baltic Sea.

Officials across the region said the incidents highlight the need for NATO members to remain prepared as the war in Ukraine continues, The Guardian has reported.

The drone incidents have increased concerns about possible Russian provocations and the risk of the conflict affecting neighboring NATO countries.
