Bernie Sanders and Steve Bannon call for curbs on AI

Bernie Sanders and Steve Bannon appeared together at a Washington, D.C., event calling for greater restrictions on the development of artificial intelligence.

Sanders warned that advanced AI could surpass human control and said he plans to introduce legislation banning the development of “superintelligent” AI.

Bannon also called for limits on AI while emphasizing national security and restrictions on the transfer of technology and knowledge between the United States and China.

Despite their shared concerns, the two outlined different approaches to regulating the technology, NPR has reported.

The event comes amid growing debate in Washington over AI safeguards, data centers, and whether the United States should slow development or prioritize competition with China.
