President Donald Trump criticized the Supreme Court after it rejected his administration’s effort to restrict mail-in voting for the 2026 midterm elections.

Trump said the justices who ruled against him were not the people he had expected when he nominated them and specifically praised Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas, who dissented.

The administration had sought to give the U.S. Postal Service a larger role in determining which voters could receive mail ballots, but election officials said the changes could not be implemented in time.

The Supreme Court’s emergency ruling found that the restrictions would likely fail in court for this year’s election, leaving existing state mail-voting procedures in place, the AP has reported.

Trump has also criticized the court over other administration policies, including birthright citizenship and presidential tariff authority.
