Stockbridge, Georgia, officials removed 23-year-old Mayor Jayden Williams from office following an investigative hearing into allegations of misconduct.
The allegations included questionable communications with an 18-year-old high school student, unauthorized city spending and mistreatment of employees.
Williams denied wrongdoing, saying some city purchases were accidental and disputing the allegations involving the student.
Police found no evidence of criminal activity related to the communications, but the city’s investigation focused on ethics and Williams’ conduct as mayor, The Guardian has reported.
Mayor Pro Tem Elton Alexander will serve as interim mayor while Stockbridge prepares for a special election to fill the position.
