Eighteen suspects arrested in connection with the July 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse were awaiting extradition from Haiti to the United States.

The suspects are expected to face trial in Florida as U.S. authorities continue investigating who financed, supported, and carried out the assassination.

U.S. officials said 30 people have been indicted in the case, with several others already arrested, convicted, or serving life sentences.

Four men were convicted in Florida in May of conspiring to kill or kidnap Moïse and providing material support for the plot, while at least five others have pleaded guilty, CBS News has reported.

Moïse’s widow, Martine Moïse, who was wounded in the attack, has testified in the U.S. case and accused former Haitian leaders Michel Martelly and Ariel Henry of connections to her husband’s killing, allegations they have disputed.
