A single gunshot during a post-tailgate fight near Notre Dame’s campus in South Bend, Indiana, struck a woman and a police officer Saturday night.

Both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital, where they were expected to make full recoveries.

Police said the incident began after a report of an armed man pointing a gun at people, but the suspect initially located by officers was unarmed.

The suspected shooter fled the area and remained at large, prompting police to evacuate nearby businesses and parking garages and close the surrounding commercial district, Fox News has reported.

A separate shooting about a mile away later that night killed at least two people and critically injured another, but police said there was no indication the incidents were connected.
