Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he plans to use his upcoming United Nations speech to defend Israel’s military actions in Gaza and criticize New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Netanyahu accused Mamdani of supporting Hamas and inciting hostility toward New York Jews, while Mamdani has rejected allegations of antisemitism and criticized Israel’s conduct in Gaza.

Netanyahu said the 2023 Hamas attack killed about 1,200 people in Israel and resulted in 251 hostages, while Gaza health officials report more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed during Israel’s subsequent military campaign.

Israel has denied accusations that it is committing genocide, saying its military operations are directed at Hamas and accusing the group of operating among civilians, Reuters has reported.

Netanyahu is scheduled to address the U.N. General Assembly on Thursday, where his spokesman said he intends to present Israel’s position on the war and respond to international criticism.
