The Pentagon says it plans to livestream the December 3 execution of Nidal Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist who killed 13 people at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009.
Hasan is scheduled to become the first person executed by the U.S. military by firing squad since 1945.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth supported the decision to use a firing squad and said the public should witness the execution to understand the consequences of such crimes.
The planned broadcast would be unprecedented in the United States, where courts have previously blocked efforts to televise executions, Reuters has reported.
The announcement comes amid renewed debate over capital punishment following a botched lethal injection in Tennessee and concerns about the methods used to carry out executions.
