Residents in Santa Fe reported ankle-deep water in streets and flooding in mobile-home communities, while several roads were closed as officials responded to rising water.

Doña Ana County ordered evacuations near an earthen dam considered at risk of failing, adding to concerns about further flooding.

Forecasters warned that some areas could receive 1 to 3 inches of rain over two days as a late monsoon pattern combined with moisture from Hurricane Polo and Tropical Storm Odalys, the Santa Fe New Mexican has reported.

Officials urged residents to avoid rapidly rising water as the state faced what meteorologists described as one of its most dangerous flash-flood risks in recent years.
