SpaceX’s Crew-12 astronauts heading home after nearly 10 months in space

Four astronauts from SpaceX’s Crew-12 mission are scheduled to leave the International Space Station on Oct. 7 after nearly eight months in orbit, following the arrival of Crew-13 on Oct. 1.

The crew consists of NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev.

Their Dragon spacecraft, named Freedom, is scheduled to undock at 8:05 a.m. EDT Wednesday and splash down in the Pacific Ocean off California at about 11:34 a.m. EDT Thursday, weather permitting.

During their mission, the astronauts conducted scientific experiments, station maintenance and spacewalks, including three spacewalks by Adenot, who became the first French woman to walk in space, Space.com has reported.

The return will conclude Crew-12’s mission as the newly arrived Crew-13 takes over operations aboard the ISS, with NASA continuing to monitor weather and sea conditions before approving the departure.
