Philadelphia officer killed in the line of duty, another wounded; suspect charged with murder

A Philadelphia police officer was killed and another seriously injured in an ambush shooting early Saturday morning in West Philadelphia, and a suspect has been charged with murder.

Officer Shane Seiber, 40, a 10-year veteran of the force, died at the hospital after being shot three times, leaving behind a wife, a 7-year-old son, and a 3-year-old daughter.

The second officer, a 33-year-old father of five, was shot 12 times and remained hospitalized in stable condition, though officials said his recovery was not assured.

Authorities identified the suspect as 35-year-old Eric Lewis, who faces multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, and weapons offenses for allegedly shooting at the officers and others, ABC 6 Action News has reported.

Police arrested Lewis after a search of the neighborhood, during which he reportedly fell out of a tree, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro ordered flags flown at half-staff in honor of Seiber.
