Thousands without power in Florida and Alabama as Isaias moves north

Hurricane Isaias weakened into a post-tropical cyclone Sunday but continued bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding threats across the central Appalachians and mid-Atlantic, while nearly 396,000 customers in Florida and Alabama remained without power.

At least four deaths were linked to the storm, including people killed by falling trees and a fatal vehicle crash involving a downed tree.

The hurricane made landfall in Florida’s Panhandle as a Category 2 storm on Friday, damaging buildings, a hotel roof, and parts of coastal high-rises.

Forecasters warned of possible flash flooding, tornadoes, dangerous surf, and rip currents across parts of the southeastern United States, including the Carolinas, Virginia, and Georgia, The Guardian has reported.

President Donald Trump approved an emergency declaration for Georgia after similar declarations for Florida and Alabama, while the Energy Department authorized emergency crude oil exchanges to help address storm-related supply disruptions.
