At least 5 tornadoes strike Central NC, uprooting trees and damaging homes

At least five confirmed tornadoes struck central North Carolina on Sunday as storms from the remnants of Hurricane Isaias brought severe weather to the region.

The tornadoes damaged or destroyed several dozen buildings in areas including northeast Raleigh and Fayetteville, while additional tornado touchdowns remain possible.

No injuries had been reported as of Sunday afternoon, and power outages affected approximately 2,000 customers across the area.

State and local emergency management teams began responding to the damage and preparing to assess the impact on affected communities, WRAL News has reported.

The National Weather Service planned additional surveys to confirm tornado touchdown locations and determine the extent of the damage, with more assessment teams scheduled to work on Monday.
