Trump says Russia, Ukraine agree to ‘energy ceasefire’

President Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to immediately halt attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure, but neither side had fully confirmed the agreement.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the announcement was news to him but that Ukraine would agree to the ceasefire if Russia committed to it.

Zelenskyy later reported that a drone had struck a power plant in Kyiv, causing electricity outages in the Ukrainian capital.

Ukraine has increased attacks on Russian oil refineries and other infrastructure, while Russia continues striking Ukrainian power plants and transmission lines, the DW has reported.

Despite the ceasefire announcement, Ukraine struck a data center operated by Russian technology company Yandex, marking the third attack on the company’s facilities in four days.
