The remains of a temple in Barranca, Peru were excavated by archaeologists from Jagiellonian University and the University of St. Mark.
Four mysterious mounds located on Cerro Colorado hill were identified as spots with potential archaeological significance. Upon further excavation by archaeologists from Jagiellonian University and the University of St. Mark, human remains and a large structure were discovered within the mounds.
According to Nauka W Polsce, the exploration project of the Barranca site commenced in 2022, and the discoveries were announced in February of the current year, the Jerusalem Post reported.
According to the accounts of Spanish explorer Antonio De La Calancha, who passed away in 1654, the area was said to be plagued by witchcraft.
He reported that the temple was a gathering place for sorcerers and that there was even a witchcraft university there. Calancha, who was also a clergyman, claimed that locals had been warned by a demon for associating with him.
It was common for gods of other cultures to be described as demons in Europe at the time, as reported by the Jerusalem Post.
