After stating last week that he expected to be arrested as part of an investigation into allegations of hush money payments made to a porn star, former President Trump is now suggesting that the case may be dropped by Manhattan’s district attorney.
“I think they’ve already dropped the case,” Trump told reporters aboard his plane after appearing at a campaign rally in Waco, Texas. “It’s a fake case. Some fake cases, they have absolutely nothing.”
The potential for Trump to face indictment in New York prompted him to call for protests last week, and has also raised the unprecedented prospect of a former US president and presidential candidate being criminally charged.
The office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has declined to provide any comment on the case, which appears to center around whether Trump violated campaign finance laws and business accounting laws in relation to the payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels, who alleges that she had an affair with him, Axios reported.
