Robert Crimo III pleaded guilty to the 2022 Highland Park Independence Day parade shooting, which killed seven and injured over 40.
His plea, entered just before trial opening arguments, marks a surprise reversal from his previous not-guilty stance.
Crimo, 23, fired from a rooftop after disguising himself in women’s clothing, then fled before being arrested the same day.
He faces a mandatory life sentence without parole, with sentencing set for April 23, the BBC has reported.
Authorities recovered 83 shell casings and rifle magazines at the scene.
