New York Attorney General Letitia James charged in fraud case

New York Attorney General Letitia James was indicted on mortgage fraud charges connected to a 2020 home purchase in Virginia.

James, a Democrat who previously sued Trump over alleged financial fraud, called the indictment baseless and accused Trump of weaponizing the justice system for political revenge.

The case was presented to the grand jury by Lindsey Halligan, a White House aide with no prior federal prosecutorial experience, after the administration replaced the career prosecutor overseeing the investigation.

The indictment alleges James misrepresented the use of a second home to secure favorable loan terms, while her lawyers vow to fight the charges, the Associated Press has reported.
