A 59-vehicle pile-up shut down Highway 99 in Tulare County, California, Saturday morning due to dense fog limiting visibility to 150–200 feet.
The crashes began with separate collisions on each side of the highway, triggering a chain reaction that involved dozens of vehicles.
The highway, a major Central Valley route, remained closed in both directions until about 2:30 p.m. while crews cleared the scene.
Multiple people sustained minor to moderate injuries in the incident, CBS News has reported.
Authorities urged drivers to slow down, maintain safe distances, and stay alert in low-visibility or congested conditions.
