Thousands in US join ‘no school, no work, no shopping’ May Day protest

Thousands of people across the United States took part in a coordinated International Workers’ Day economic blackout organized under the “May Day Strong” movement.

The actions included walkouts, protests, and blockades targeting institutions such as the New York Stock Exchange, Amazon facilities, and airports, with some participants arrested.

Groups including labor unions, student organizations, and activist networks called for “no work, no school, no shopping” to protest inequality, corporate power, immigration enforcement, and war.

Demonstrations spread to cities nationwide, involving teachers, students, healthcare workers, and politicians, with several major disruptions to transportation and workplaces, The Guardian has reported.

Organizers described the event as part of a broader effort to build momentum toward larger labor actions, including the idea of a future general strike.
