Boko Haram attack kills 23 soldiers in Chad’s Lake Chad region

At least 23 Chadian soldiers were killed and 26 injured in a Boko Haram attack on a military post in the Lake Chad region, according to the armed forces.

The assault targeted a base on Barka Tolorom island and was later repelled, with the military saying many attackers were also killed.

President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno condemned the attack and vowed to continue fighting the group until it is eliminated.

The Nigeria-based extremist group has intensified attacks in the region in recent months, including ambushes and kidnappings around Lake Chad, Al-Jazeera has reported.

Chad has faced repeated insecurity in the area, where Boko Haram and its splinter faction remain active despite ongoing military operations.
