Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos responded to criticism from FBI Director Kash Patel over the handling of the investigation into the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie in Tucson, Arizona.
Patel accused local authorities of initially limiting FBI involvement and suggested early delays hindered the search, while also describing federal efforts to recover key digital evidence like doorbell camera footage.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said the FBI was notified early, worked alongside local investigators, and has continued collaborating on evidence analysis.
Officials confirmed that Guthrie remains missing with no suspects identified, and the case is still under active investigation, People.com has reported.
Both agencies say they are continuing coordinated efforts despite disagreements over the early stages of the response.
