Minneapolis man pleads guilty to syringe attack against Rep. Ilhan Omar

A Minnesota man, Anthony James Kazmierczak, pleaded guilty in federal court to assaulting Rep. Ilhan Omar after spraying vinegar at her during a January town hall event.

He was quickly tackled before reaching her and Omar was not physically harmed.

Kazmierczak had originally pleaded not guilty but changed his plea and now faces a potential prison sentence, likely between four and 14 months.

He has been in custody since the incident and will receive credit for time served, though no sentencing date has been set, NBC News has reported.

The attack followed earlier threats he allegedly made against Omar and occurred during a period of heightened political tension in Minneapolis.
