Multiple tornadoes struck central and western Mississippi on Wednesday, damaging about 400 homes and injuring at least 17 people, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.
Authorities confirmed 14 tornadoes touched down, with the worst damage reported in Lamar and Lincoln counties, where hundreds of homes were affected.
Emergency officials warned residents to avoid impacted areas as cleanup and damage assessments began, and no deaths have been reported.
State officials and volunteer groups, including the Cajun Navy, mobilized supplies and support for relief efforts, NBC News has reported.
The storm system continued moving eastward, bringing ongoing risks of severe weather and flooding across parts of the Southeast.
