Trump calls on Congress to pass Senate’s housing bill

President Donald Trump is urging Congress to pass the Senate’s 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, breaking a stalemate between the House and Senate over competing housing affordability plans.

The Senate version, which has already passed with strong bipartisan support, aims to curb large Wall Street investors from buying single-family homes to prioritize homeownership for individuals.

Trump and his allies argue the bill is necessary to protect the “American Dream” of homeownership, while some House Republicans have raised concerns that its provisions could discourage new home construction.

Supporters in the Senate, including Majority Leader John Thune, are pushing the House to adopt the bill unchanged to quickly address housing costs ahead of upcoming elections, Politico has reported.

The White House and GOP leaders say presidential pressure may be key to resolving the legislative deadlock and moving the bill forward.
