Federal prosecutors in Chicago dropped all charges against the remaining defendants in the “Broadview Six” case after admitting serious errors in the grand jury process.
A federal judge expressed shock over alleged misconduct, including improper prosecutor behavior, juror exclusion, and inappropriate communications.
The U.S. attorney said the case was dismissed due to these procedural issues and acknowledged the handling was improper, though not intentional.
Defense lawyers argued the misconduct undermined the entire prosecution and violated the defendants’ rights, CBS News has reported.
The case, tied to a 2025 protest outside an U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility, known as the Broadview Six case, was widely criticized and is now closed with charges dismissed without prejudice.
